Logan turned two a few weeks ago and we decided to celebrate with his favorite things – Things That GO! Keep reading for more details and some awesome freebies.
Here’s more on Logan’s first birthday if you’re interested.
This year, my goal was to have a birthday party that reflected where our sweet boys interests were focused and to ENJOY the day. First birthdays are so fun for the family and it’s easy to get caught up in the details and miss the moment. At least it was for me (that’s my main issue in life in general). So THIS year, I told myself I was going to keep it simple. I wasn’t going overboard with baking or decor or doing anything crazy. And honestly, Logan’s 2nd birthday turned out better than I had hoped. We were together with the people we love and that love our little guy and he had the BEST TIME. We asked him later if he had fun, and he just kept smiling and nodding and babbling about his day.
We went with the theme “Things That GO!” Because anything that flies or vrooms or choo-choos is Logan’s jam right now. It was so fun to plan and all came together pretty easily, with the help of some Pinterest searching (freebies and my idea board linked at the end of the post).
I think I had the most fun with the food – there were just so many fun ideas!
We tried to use kid friendly foods and to keep the snacks somewhat healthy. And we of course included “monkeys” (Danimals yogurts) because they are Logan’s favorites. We used Logan’s toy vehicles and the cutest tins from Target. They were in the Easter clearance section and matched the theme perfectly!

The other thing that was amazing about this set up is that the only things I had to prep were the chocolate covered pretzels and the watermelon, both of which the kids and I did as a fun “project” on Friday. And making the PB&J was easy peasy – I used these vehicle cookie cutters.
We had a lot of littles coming to play, so we wanted to have games that would work for many ages groups. Traffic cone ring toss and stop light ball toss were big hits, as were the bubbles! There was also coloring inside and of course matchbox cars galore! The rings we used are pool rings, we got the traffic cones from hubby’s work truck, I turned an amazon box into the stop light and we already had the balls from Logan’s ball pit. The caution tape addition was all my husband’s idea and it ended up being really helpful in making a ball stop for the toss game (it was pretty windy!) The coloring pages are linked in the freebie at the end of this post!
I am blessed with a husband who loves to help with decor and parties, so we had a lot of fun with all the finishing touches! J hung planes all around, added caution tape and hung up the (free) vehicle decorations I’d printed off and laminated. We got a couple “vroom-vroom” balloons to surprise Logan (they were WAY bigger than I thought they’d be!) and set the favors by his “year 2” book in the entry way. The favors were these cute pull back vehicles and Reeses Pieces. The ADORABLE tags are linked below.
We were having so much fun we almost forgot about cake and presents! Seriously! I decided not to make the cake this year and Logan had picked out this “monkey choo choo” cake one day at HyVee, so that’s what we went with! It ended up being so cute, he loved it, and I wasn’t stressed out of my mind and up to my ears in buttercream.
(Click here to see his cake from last year… I should say CAKES, because there were two. and cupcakes. EEK)
We had so much fun celebrating our baby big boy and are beyond grateful for everyone who loves him so well. I can’t believe he is already 2!!
At the last minute I decided I wanted to get him a shirt for his party, and Amazon came through. *mom of the year* It was super cute and somehow made it through still white, so that was a bonus!
