Introducing Logan Everette!
On Sunday, April 17th I did not go to church. I wasn’t feeling up to it and I was starting to have some pretty sharp pains (later, I figured out that Logan was dropping and I was starting to have contractions). I tried to rest, and hubby and I worked on the nursery a little when he got home. Josh had some work to do, so he stayed up to work and I went to bed to attempt to get some sleep. I got up around midnight feeling like I was having contractions, but after a little while they subsided and I went back to bed. I woke up around 3 am because I thought I might have had a contraction. I looked at the time and tried to rest, but I woke up exactly ten minutes later with another. This happened one more time, then I got up to use the restroom. I had just laid back down when my water broke. I jumped up, trying to wake Josh up (who had just gone to bed at 2, poor guy), telling him that it was time to go to the hospital. Josh sheepishly asked “will you kill me if I take a shower?” So, he took a shower to wake himself up and I packed our last minute things.
Shortly after Josh hopped in the shower, my contractions went from 10 minutes apart to 5 minutes apart. I had to kneel and lean on the couch to get through them, so I really wanted to get going to the hospital!
Once we were checked in and they confirmed that my water had indeed broken, they checked me and I was only about 3 ½ cm. We tried to get comfortable, thinking it would be awhile.
I stopped looking at the time, except the seconds when timing contractions, which definitely got much stronger quickly. I was having so much pelvic pressure that I couldn’t stand or sit to try all the different methods of working through the pain, so finally I laid on my side in bed (just goes to show that nothing goes according to plan!). I started to get really anxious and upset because I couldn’t get a grip on the contractions. I wasn’t getting enough of a break to rest.
I had said I wanted an epidural earlier but the anesthesiologist was busy and I was moving along too quickly (they had checked again around 8 or 9am and I was at 7cm), so they gave me an IV to help with the pain so I could rest. After I calmed down, we tried a few different things to keep things moving and soon I was at 9.
Because I was moving so quickly, it was too late for any more drugs and I was starting to get overwhelmed. When I was finally able to push, I felt so much better because I felt like I was actually doing something rather than just lying there trying to deal with the pain!
Logan took his sweet time (at least it felt like it to me!) to arrive, and I started to get a little angry. The doctor kept saying he was almost here, but then more contractions and pushes would go by with no baby. I started to get discouraged, but Josh, the doctors and one nurse in particular were so encouraging! I have never felt like I have exerted every last bit of myself down to my very soul until that moment, but then he was here.
They laid him on my chest and all the pain and noise and exhaustion faded.
He was perfect.
He didn’t even cry! He just lifted his head up off my chest and looked at me with his dark eyes as if to say, “Oh hey, Mom. It’s me. Sorry about that, I just wasn’t quite ready to come out yet.”
Logan Everette was born at 11:56am and weighed 7 pounds, 11 ounces and was 19.5 inches long.
As soon as I came out of my “holy cow this is my adorable baby, I get to keep him forever” coma, I asked if I could have lunch. My nurse laughed and said of course! I ate lunch before we even got cleaned up – labor is labor after all!
My sweet boy is 3 months old now, and I can hardly believe that he is mine! They aren’t kidding when they say that time flies by. I feel like we just found out about Logan yesterday, and now here he is smiling at me!
This mama heart is full to overflowing!

So great to see your journey in print.
Many happy memories with Logan for both of you are in your future. Just like you said, nothing goes as planned, so just do the best you can and take some naps when he does.
