When I started this blog, I wanted to share some favorite things as a way for you to get to know me better. The goal was to post a special “favorite things” post on the first Wednesday of each month. Well, I missed October due to massive overwhelm (thanks to our suprise addition!). BUT, I’m back and these are my favorite things yet!!
Alot of my favorite things are represented in this photo!
Obviously, the new little one that God is blessing our family with tops the list!
Coffee is one of my absolute favorite things as well – it brought my husband and I together, it’s tasty, and it’s a great way to start the day. Coffee mugs are also represented – which is good because we have quite the collection at home (thanks, mom, for starting that addiction!).
This photo was taken at one of our favorite coffee shops here in the Quad Cities – Milltown Coffee. Great coffee and great atmosphere.
The wood grain and brick that make an appearance here are some of my personal favorite textures – I’d love to incorporate them into my home someday.
Perhaps my favorite thing represented in the photo is what you can’t see…
Let me explain.
I’ve always been known as a planner. I’m also a self-proclaimed perfectionist. And if I’m honest, I’ve always known I have some issues with pride. But until recently, I didn’t understand how all those things tied together.
We were surprised by this pregnancy. Overjoyed!! But definitely surprised. As a planner, I had a set time line in mind and a list of goals to accomplish prior to baby (you can laugh now – I am!). As per usual, that didn’t happen and we are having a baby in April!!
I’ve been dealing with some frustration over my plan being thrown off, if I’m being totally honest. I think that I’ve been trying to control other things in my life because I couldn’t control when we started our family.
I was very excited to come up with the perfect way to share that we were pregnant. I love what we decided to do, and it turned out great! But look carefully… there’s a mistake. We are having a baby in 2016, not 2015! Not a big deal, but I went through momentary pride-panic when I discovered the mess-up after we posted the picture this morning.
But God quickly spoke to my heart, reminding me that nothing here on earth is perfect but that I am perfect in His eyes. Just as I was getting upset, my daily Bible verse popped up on my phone:
“Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ.” Galatians 1:10
My life – especially as a parent, is lived to please God. When my pride gets in the way, I miss out because I am focused on the problem and not the Solution.
And that is my now my favorite thing represented in this photo – GOD’s amazing ability to work all things together for His glory and for the ultimate GOOD of His people.
What are some of your favorite things?
What lesson is God teaching you right now?
