Oh Fall, we love you! Sunshine, warm but not hot, cool but not freezing, colors everywhere...pumpkin everything! Little man has been BEGGING to make pumpkin pie, so we are going to tackle that next week! (Update: we did it and had a blast!) This week we went to Wallace's (a local garden center that seriously has all the things) to pick out our pumpkins. The kiddies go to a patch as a family, so I didn't want to double up. Wallace's is perfect though, because in the fall they have a bunch of outdoor FREE activities, including a bounce house. So, we had a ball. Both of the cuties picked … [Read more...]
My Way: Giving God Ideas
A couple months ago, we were playing in the garage. I had given little man some cards to practice colors with, and he took it very seriously. He played carefully, careful not to bend any. When it was time to start cleaning up, he began carefully placing his cards into the bag in a certain way. Little sis came over and, trying to help, started grabbing fistfuls of cards and shoving them at him. She bent some, she wasn't successful at getting them into the bag, and she really frustrated her brother in the process. … [Read more...]

On the way home from church I tried to swallow the fear building up and focus on what I was going to do that afternoon. Lesson plans. Prepare for the week. Do everything I'd been putting off. Grade papers. Mentally berate myself for not having lessons done yet. First year teacher stuff. Just like every Sunday before, I dove into my work and tried to ignore the tide of fear, but just like clockwork I was in tears by 7pm. Panicking. Fear taking over every part of me. … [Read more...]
20 Things I Wish I’d Known as A First Year Teacher
I was reminded of my very first classroom of kids recently. Those second graders are now starting fifth grade. It seems like a lifetime ago, but it really hasn’t been that long. In addition to simultaneously missing them and thanking God I’m not at that school any more (another story for another time), I’ve been thinking about all the things I wish I’d known. I’m sure every teacher (and every other person who enters the real work world) feels this way at some point, so I started making a list of things I wish I'd known as a first year teacher. Here’s what I would go back and tell myself … [Read more...]
11 Day Pack Essentials for Your Next Hike
A few weeks ago my husband and I joined my parents and brother in lovely, non-humidified mountain country. Rocky Mountain National Park in Estes Park, Colorado is seriously the best place. It is gorgeous, there are a million things you can do, and the weather is awesome! We did a couple pretty big day hikes and a few smaller ones. We had a blast hiking; it's amazing exercise and you get to see the most inspirational things! … [Read more...]
