It’s March! Even though the weather here in the good ole Midwest is still pretty unpredictable, it’s starting to feel more like spring.
I don’t know about you, but I am a big spring cleaner.
This year I feel like I want to spring clean my home, my mind, my heart – all of it!

I am using Powersheets this year to set intentional goals, and it has really been helping me find and cultivate what really, truly matters. (Preorders are open for June goal setting! Seriously, go order one!!)
One of my goals is to cultivate a life giving home, so I decided that March would be Cut the Clutter month!
I’ve been on this “best self journey” for two months now, and I have to say that I love the way it’s been going. Choosing one thing to focus on cutting out and one better thing to replace it with has been awesome! Doing it for an entire month really makes it a habit.
In January I cut out sugar and replaced it with lots of fruits and veggies.
In February, I cut out TV and replaced it with reading!
I really thought cutting out TV would be harder than cutting out sugar (and that was hard!). But it really wasn’t. I haven’t watched TV since the end of January and I don’t really miss it. I’ll watch a YouTube video every now and then and I’m not opposed to a movie night with Josh, but otherwise I’m really loving spending more quality time with my guys, working on the apartment, practicing hand-lettering, digging into good books, and listening to podcasts.
For March, I’m going to focus on cutting clutter and adding meaningful decor to our bedroom and to Logan’s room. (No, my almost one year old’s nursery is not finished. Don’t judge.)
Our tiny apartment has gone from just my apartment, to my home with Josh, to the place where we have started raising our son. We’ve got mostly hand me down furniture and not a lot of storage space to work with, so we’ve always had to be creative aesthetically and organizationally. My husband and I have differing styles (and have only recently defined them!), and we are on a budget. Add all that up, and it’s a little tricky! But creating a place that is a haven for my family is something that God has been pressing on my heart lately.
I really want to cut the clutter so that I can make room for things that tell my family’s story. I want my husband to come home and breathe deeply, knowing he can rest well. I want my son to be able to play and learn and have fun, knowing he is safe. I always thought that place would be a physical house, but I want our current space to reflect these dreams as well!
I’ve been reading The Lifegiving Home by Sally Clarkson, and it is teaching me so so much!
I wanted to get right to work, so instead of printing out the worksheet, I just grabbed my nearest notebook. But if you want to use the free worksheet, go grab it here!
P.S. Those super cute stickers are from the Cultivate What Matters sticker book (any planner that comes with stickers is a winner in my book).
Possible Hangups: distracted by housework, making more of a mess, Logan :D, time constraints
Set up for Success: take one section a week, talk through decor with Josh, pin things that are actually attainable :D, list out what I want to accomplish in each room and prioritize
Build in rest: focus only on the areas I’ve chosen that week, make it fun, listen to podcasts while I work, include Josh
Accountability: post photos to social media (yikes!)
I’m really looking forward to digging in this month! I love to clean and organize, I just usually get super overwhelmed and make more of a mess. I am hopeful that this way of taking it slow will lead to success.
Check in with me on Instagram and keep me accountable! Let me know if you decide to cut the clutter as well!
Hope you are having a wonderful day!
XO, Anna

You are the most organized person I know. Where do I find ” Cultivate What Matters” ?
I love a house that is messy with kids toys, it says alot of the family that lives there.
