The weather is cooler, the kiddos are back at school, and fall is in the air! It’s the perfect time to get outside. As a mama, I’m always looking for fun ways to teach Logan and being outside is one of our favorites. He always has so many questions, so we put those to use! I thought I’d put together a quick list of ideas to get your creative juices flowing.
Here are just a few fun ideas to get outside and learn at the same time this fall! Check out my Pinterest board for more ideas!
- Go for a nature walk
- Sort leaves by color
- Sort rocks by size
- Do a sink or float experiment
- Go on a nature scavenger hunt
- Explore the parts of a pumpkin
- Put up a bird feeder and do some bird watching
- Set up a water or sensory activity outside
I love the idea of working on multiple skills at once, and littles love to feel big so giving them a pencil and paper on a clipboard can be really fun. Have them draw what they saw on your walk or a picture of the pumpkin seeds. Have them draw a table with chalk to sort leaves or the items they tested in the float or sink experiment. Get creative!
I love using Pinterest to search for ideas and free printables (check out my Pinterest board here!).Another great place to find more worksheet type activities is Education.com. I used to use this site all the time when I taught! Grab a free outdoor activities word tracer page from them below!
Your bigger kiddos can work on their fine motor skills and pencil grasp with this fun reading and writing activity. Visit Education.com for more writing practice! I’m currently browsing their Preschool printables, as we are starting to ease in to Homeschooling full time next year! I’ve started pinning resources too – check those out here.
Whatever you choose to do, make it fun! Your littles will learn best when you’re all engaged together, and you’ll be making memories at the same time.
